15 Paper 13 by SEAMEO QITEP in MATHEMATICS Redefining the Needs of Special Education Students for Mathematics in Southeast Asia 1 Sumardyono & 2 Uki Rahmawati 1&2 SEAMEO QITEP in Mathematics, Indonesia The objectives of this research were to identify what mathematics programs are offered in the current curriculum in Southeast Asia; to identify mathematics teachers' perspectives in special education regarding their needs, and to identify what mathematics should we teach to special needs students. In this study, a questionnaire was distributed to special education teachers in eight Southeast Asia countries. Further, an interview was conducted in the form of an online forum group discussion with teachers, parents, and students from Indonesia and Malaysia. The last stage of the research was conducted in the symposium to identify what changes need to make to the mathematics curriculum for special education needs students; what ‘mathematics’ that special education needs’ students necessarily need to learn; what supports teachers need to help special education needs’ students learn mathematics. The findings of this study showed that most teachers for special needs students need some professional development programs. In addition, regarding the curriculum for special education, some mathematical knowledge needs to be emphasized, such as basic mathematical operations, real- life mathematics, and others. Furthermore, with several types of disabilities in students they still have the same opportunities to learn, understand, and use mathematics to the main level if provided with support that is appropriate to their needs. It is expected that the training or the other programs following the needs of special school teachers and inclusive schools in teaching mathematics to students with disabilities can be further organized by respective institutions. This project generally aims to enhance the understanding of the experiences of urban households in coping with food security issues and concerns during the pandemic. In particular, the project seeks to find out how the current food security- related knowledge, attitude, and practices of households in two urban districts in Jakarta, Indonesia and one municipality in Los Banos, Philippines influence their coping mechanismduring the pandemic. The project adopts a case study approach in two phases for data collection: 1) an online survey to get a cross-sectional data on the determinants of food security coping strategies of households in the study sites, and 2) interview of at least 10 households from each study site to validate and further generate insights on their level of food security or insecurity. Both quantitative and qualitative methods will be used to analyze the data collected towards recommending appropriate interventions to improve the level of coping strategies of urban households for food security during a pandemic.
